Art Club
Please be on the look out for Art Club applications through out the year. Due to a heavy volume of interested participants I now have an application process. Art Club is a merit after school curricular activity. Fifth and Fourth Grade Art Club papers went home today, (August 28, 2014.) The Student is to fill out the application and turn in two pieces of Art, I provided a double sheet of paper in the packet, but the student is not limited to that paper. 5-4 Grade Art club will run on wednesdays frome Sept 24 to November 12. 3rd grade Art club will start in December, 2nd Grade ArtClub will start in March, If there is time there may or may not be a 1st Grade Art Club.
Square1Art Fundraiser
In the past we have participated in a Fundraiser where you can purchase your student's artwork printed on everyday objects. The proceeds go to Paramount's art department. In the past we have been able to purchase extra supplies and resources for the art room. Look for Custom catolouges to come home the first week of November. Orders will be due November 12, 2014. They make great gifts for the family! Orders are IN! Check with your student to see if they recieved it.
Sketch Pads
Grades 3-5 recieve sketch pads so they can participate in a free drawing activity outside of art class. This Sketch pad is not the sturdiest so students have to handle it with CARE! There should be enough pages in the sketch pad to last until January, in which each student will receive a new sketch pad to last until the end of the school year. Please follow the directions listed below:
1. When sketching, please start with the first page, then the other side, then the next in chronological order.
2. Please use pencil, pen, crayon, or color pencils.----Do not use markers, paint, or pastels. (If you would like to use those materials, please use a heavier piece of paper.)
3. There will be a 5-10 warm up sketch done in art class to start, so sketch pads are to be brought to art at ALL TIMES.
4. There will be a separate 5-10 minute sketch due at the beginning of every art class. This sketch can be a drawing of anything the student wants to draw as long as it is appropriate for school. Examples: a Landscape, a portrait, from the imagination, patterns, abstract, etc… Time will be provided at school to get it done, but it is best if it is done at home.
5. If a student has completed their homework every time or nearly every time, it can help raise a student’s art grade.
6. The Sketch pad and coming to class prepared with a 5 minute or more, sketch will be part of the student’s participation grade.
7. If the sketch pad gets destroyed or lost please come to me, I usually have extras to replace it.
There are many benefits to free drawing outside of art class. The student is refining their fine motor skills. They are using higher order thinking and creative problem solving skills. They are also using visualization skills which promote comprehension while reading. Young children are naturally creative but over time creativity dwindles unless they engage in activities that promote it. Please encourage your student(s) to participate in this free drawing activity, the benefits are endless!
